Leia Organa left the New Republic NI 4, crowned Queen, joined New Galactic Empire NI 5 — price: Jedi can exist legally.
0 BBY — Alderaan destroyed by Tarkin / Death Star. Survivors scatter.
ABY 9-13 / NI -1 to NI 3 — New Alderaan colony built — mountain-lake world, white cities, spiritual successor. NR protectorate initially, funded by survivors + ex-Rebels who believe in Leia over Mon Mothma.
NI 4 / ABY 14 — Leia resigns from NR Senate after clash over Imperial Remnant policy + Jedi oversight (Luke wants Jedi autonomy, NR fears Luke = new Jedi Order). Sees Empress's reforms as more honest than NR nostalgia. Crowns Queen (elected monarchy, House Organa tradition).
NI 5 / ABY 15 — Treaty of New Alderaan — joins NGE as autonomous principality. Keeps democracy, laws, customs, sends Senator to Imperial Senate, maintains own defense fleet (white Alderaanian frigates). Leia's Price met.
Leia's Price — Registered Jedi
Leia would only join if Empress met conditions. Chief:
- Jedi can exist legally in Empire (not hunted)
- Force Practitioners not forced into Knights or killed
- Audits, not executions
- Amnesty for Jedi who didn't commit war crimes
Empress agreed — Leia joining = massive legitimacy: Rebel hero, Alderaan victim, chooses Empire over Republic. Both daughters of monsters (Vader and Palpatine), both understand power corrupts. Leia is maybe only person who can tell Empress she's wrong and live.
Resulting Law — Registered Jedi (NI 5): legal to be "Force Practitioner — Jedi Tradition" if registered, no students, no temples, 1 per sector max (unless married), submit to Inquisitor Auditor visits monthly/quarterly unannounced, carry Registry Card, report harmful Force use, can keep saber. Training anyone = Death + forfeiture.
New Alderaan = sanctuary — many registered Jedi live there under Leia's direct protection. She audits the auditors back via Alderaanian liaison.
Today NI 24
- Population ~12M: Alderaanian diaspora + ex-Rebels + registered Jedi hermits + some ex-NR officers who followed Leia.
- Capital: New Aldera City — white stone, lake, low crime.
- Politics: Most liberal / most pro-Jedi part of NGE. Constant tension with Imperial hardliners who hate Jedi toleration. Leia pushes against Knights-as-property law: "you are doing what Old Republic did, just prettier."
- Relationship Empress ↔ Leia: Respectful, wary. Both understand power corrupts. Leia argues, Empress listens.
- Relationship Knights ↔ Leia: Leia helped write "feel everything" doctrine, insisted on therapy/Inquisitor follow. Knew Anakin.
- Leia vs Luke: Luke stayed NR building Praxeum classic Jedi — struggling, some students fall, strained with sister. Leia vs Luke = two Jedi futures competing: hermits/healers audited vs Order rebuilt.
Game Use
- Jedi PC can register on New Alderaan — safe haven, but monthly Auditor visits.
- Leia great quest-giver: knows both sides, can get Empire and Republic to talk.
- Conflict: Hardliner Imperial officer wants to purge New Alderaan Jedi despite law — party must stop or help.
Canon note: NGE = protagonist faction, NR = antagonist faction. Intentional inversion. All power corrupts.
